My husband and I love spending time together doing some new things. This year was our fifth wedding anniversary. While everything had been cancelled in the spring summer...way back then we still thought there was a chance for our anniversary to bring about some needed fun and relaxation. Anyone close with us knows that I have been working a ton throughout this pandemic due to being in a health care. Come October I was so excited, our anniversary was on a weekend we were going to just have FUN!
As October got closer and closer we realized our dreams were not going to happen. We decided about a week or so before our anniversary to just book a cabin in Chataqua New York. We had enjoyed our time in Hocking Hills over the summer and figured give it a shot. We searched for hours and days. So many places were already full, specifically because of the half capacity. Then we found it! A great place where we would have our own house on the lake. Walking distance to so many things. A kitchen so we could cook and hang out together. For me this was going to be heaven! And then it happened....the case in Ohio were rising and we were banned from NY State. We found out on a Thursday, the day before we were leaving. I was devastated, crying, yelling, just pissed off. There was absolutely nothing open in Ohio or Pennsylvania and we were banned from travelling to New York.
In all parts of life, you have to be resilient...so we changed course. We couldnt stay over night anywhere but we could make reservations for Cedar Point one of our favorite places to go together. And because we have the Gold Pass it would only cost us some gas.
We went to Cedar point, but it was a sad day. We could not get on any rides in a reasonable time. You had to wear a mask. it was not fun. So we left and went to a winery. We got one round of drinks. No one ever returned to bring us any more. We wanted to order food, it was really a no go. We went to pay, the system was down and it took forever. We decided to get out of Sandusky. On our way back to Cleveland we stopped in Avon at Jake' on the Lake.
Ok...here was a bright spot. The food was good. We actually got a table even though the place was "packed" by covid standards. I was glad to see that they had a ton of to go orders. So they were super busy. The food took forever, but as we have all learned through Covid, just be patient with wait staff and restaurants. After dinner we left and decided to just pick the dog up from Stay. No point in leaving him there. He was happy to see us. We picked him up and were on our way home. We decided to at least stop for some dessert at Remix in the neighborhood.
It was not the anniversary we desired, but it was what we got. And at least we were together and safe!
