Audience with the pope Wednesday in Rome

The reason we came to Rome- so my husband could see the Pope.  We woke up, we grabbed our cappucino at the  hotel breakfast and grabbed a cab tot he Vatican.  We had to go through security, but Ronnie was so excited so we did get there early.  That meant we got to pick out seats.  We had great seats- although we did not know that you want to sit on the rails because the pope drives around the perimeter and you could be even closer to him!.

The people waiting for their private audience with the Pope.  He sat for hours to meet with everyone.

The immigration monument.  It shows that all are welcome at the Vatican.

The Pope's blessing in English

After listening and praying with the Pope we walked around a bit more.  Ronnie enjoyed a beer from a vender in St. Peter's Square.  He just thought that was hilarious!

We came back from the Vatican/seeing the pope, dropped stuff off at the room nd just continued our idea of sightseeing in Italy which is aimlessly walking.  Ronnie got to take a pic with his buddy Pinocchio.

We then walked over to Piazza Navona to walk around and grab some lunch.  The fountain was under some construction.  We stopped at a restaurant called La Dolce Vita.  Ronnie will tall you it was the worst meal he had in Italy.  He hated it.  We started with a bruschetta.  He had veal and fries and I had spinach ravioli.  I enjoyed my meal.

After lunch we really did just walk around the Piazza, check out more churches, enjoy people watching.  Italy is such an amazing place.  life is at a slower pace.

It was then time to start planning apertivo and dinner.  We found a restaurant around the corner in an alley from the Pantheon that had tripe.  Ronnie really wanted another round of tripe.  So we though ok, apertivo and then we would go there, they opened around 7pm.   Apertivo is a serious part of the day in Italy.  Ronnie ordered birra, I ordered my Aperol spritz and they bring you a full plate of appetizers at no cost.

After the snacks it was around 7:30, well in typical Italian fashion, time is irrelavent.  The restaurant with the tripe was still not open.  So we decided to keep walking around and see what we wanted to do.  We ended up finding another restaurant down another street off the Pantheon.  We found Maxela.  It looked interesting.  They had a great wine list, so we decided to try it.  I had a wonderful glass of their house red wine, and they started the meal with bread and tarelli!  Then Ronnie ordered the veal scalopinni con limone and I ordered the Petto di pollo agli agrumi (chicken in a citrus fruit sauce.  It was delicious.

After dinner we walked around some shops in the area and again just people watched.  We ended the night the best way possible, with a gelato, sitting in the square of the Pantheon watching the people, vendors and just loving life.  We were going to be going to Sorrento in the morning.  I could not wait!

Bologna Day3- day trip to Modena

We started off the day sort of late.  Decided to do a day trip to Modena, round trip was under 17 euros total for us both.  We walked to the train station which is literally like 5 minutes from our hotel grabbed a cappuccino water and apricot filled croissant and off we went.  We arrive in Modena less than a half hour later.   look at the pretty streets of Modena Another day another piazza! But we were in Modena and I was in search of balsamic...a tasting a something.  The first store I went in to had very, very high end balsamic you could do a tasting for a price and the cheapest bottle started at 60 Euro.  This was not our balsamic market.  This was a little above where we wanted to buy and we have tasted the really expensive stuff before.  But then we found a reasonable store.  Giuseppe Giusti offers free tastings of their balsamic at all different levels and their vermouth.  It was all fantastic.  We decided on some i...

YY Time with Y-town Friends

This new place is Asian town was a fantastic experience with some wonderful friends.  Ronnie and I got a call dear old friends John, Dave and Dana- from Youngstown and now living in Cleveland- to meet for lunch at a new place called YY Time.  This restaurant is a cool new concept in Asia Town.  You sit and order through a QR code.  Each seat has its own code.  They have street food, skewers, Asian soups, bubble teas and milks so many great choices.  We each ordered an then shared as we love to do.  I cannot wait to return!  Here are the great items we tried that day.   Salty crispy chicken and a fruit bubble tea Rice Noodle soup with braised brisket and one of the specialty crossing the bridge soups.  The noodle soup was amazing.  The flavor of all the broths were just amazing.  My husband and I split ours and It is definitely big enough to split.  And then we all tried a little bit of each others to just have a taste...

GIrls Trip- Alaska

I know know, this blog is all about the fun stuff I do with my husband, but this one blog post is going to be about an adventure I had with the one person I have known the longest in my life- my sister! The trip started with Angela texting one day asking if I wanted to see the Aurora Borealis....I thought sure why not.  And then we booked a trip and here we are. As we were planning I remembered an old friend from my semester at American lives in Fairbanks so I reached out to him for suggestions.  He offered some great ideas on places to go, things to do, and places to eat. Sadly we will not be able to see him and his wife, because they leave for vacation right after we got in town.   So the adventure for me started with a 7:50 text that my flight changed and a rerouting.  I left Cleveland at 1:40 pm and met up with my sister in Seattle at around 7 pacific time for a quick dinner before we parted ways for our flights to Fairbanks (different airlines).  ...
