Bologna day 2

Another day, another perfect espresso.  We went to a cafeteria and had a simple cafe'.

We then began our wondering around and found a Biblioteca that had these cool moon structure.  There is Ronnie between the holes of mooncheese.  LOL

look at that ceiling

We were then next to the Basilica I could not get in yesterday, so in we went!  Basilicata di San Petronio.  Again, stunning.  It is just so beautiful.

Then the street scenes as we walk along, a man playing accordion, under graffiti of course.

Ronnie wanted to check out a grocery store.  This was a small one, but look at that canned sauce and how cheap most of it is.  The prices in the stores are so reasonable.

And then what we went in search of for the day....all Ronnie wanted as we came back to Italy....his favorite meal of all time....Trippa!

The restaurant has a hand written menu, a surly chef who drank at least 3 glasses of wine while we were there an Italian grandma waitress and an American waitress who said she was in training and got yelled at for talking to us even though she was our server.  Poor girl.  She was very sweet.  I had lamb off the special of the day menu, Ronnie trippa, a tomato and onion salad.  Ronnie beer, of course, and I had a glass of Lambrusco.  Now let me tell you Lambrusco here is NOT sweet it is a delicious dry fizzy wine with fantastic flavor.  No Riunite crap.  The best part about lunch is that Ronnie asked for parmesan for the trippa, the chef called him stunad.  He completely insulted the chef asking for that for his dish.

our chef

Look at the beautiful bread in the store.

We then stumbled upon another Biblioteca with these gorgeous artifacts.  You could buy a ticket to see more, but we just walked around the free part- it was amazing.

Before going back to the room I wanted to go to the high end store district- not that we can afford any of it.  Look at these stores.  I mean everything is gorgeous and you have to be buzzed in.  We purchased an espresso and a crema dark (an espresso cream with ciocolata e nocciola).  My cold drink was like a dessert and it was wonderful.  This is what we could afford here.  Emporio Armani coffee.  LOL.

Ronnie just wanted to show off his name on our way to dinner, yes after a nap Meg.
We went to the oldest bar in Bologna- Osteria de Sole for a drink before I made him walk a long way for dinner.

I had a prosecco and Ronnie a Bolognese beer.  We sat outside. It was a cool vibe at the bar.  No food, just drinks and hanging out.  Lots of young college students.

And then my slice of happiness from 24 years ago.  The waitress told me the cooks and some ownership has changed since I was last there.  But it looked the same and the food was just amazing.  We started with the local selection of meats and she recommended adding the bread- it was fried and crispy.

And the pasta I have been dreaming about- Tortelloni with butter and sage.  The filling is like a mix of ricotta and really soft mozzarella.  Maybe it is straciatella.  I do not know, but it is amazing.  And I ordered a half fresca of wine- it was like a bottle for 6 Euro.  Insane!

Ronnie had the tortellini in broda and we split a salad.  The ceilings are the same, the decor the same.

We needed the half hour walk home, it is now 2 hours after dinner and I am sill full.

the lit porticos are so beautiful as the walk Bologna

The Piazza's glow

And then we had some gelato.  Ronnie ciocolata and I had pistachio e nocchiola.

We continued our walk home and now Ronnie is sleeping as I finish the blog and figure out what we do tomorrow....maybe Modena, maybe a different city.  No decision yet.

Bologna Day3- day trip to Modena

We started off the day sort of late.  Decided to do a day trip to Modena, round trip was under 17 euros total for us both.  We walked to the train station which is literally like 5 minutes from our hotel grabbed a cappuccino water and apricot filled croissant and off we went.  We arrive in Modena less than a half hour later.   look at the pretty streets of Modena Another day another piazza! But we were in Modena and I was in search of balsamic...a tasting a something.  The first store I went in to had very, very high end balsamic you could do a tasting for a price and the cheapest bottle started at 60 Euro.  This was not our balsamic market.  This was a little above where we wanted to buy and we have tasted the really expensive stuff before.  But then we found a reasonable store.  Giuseppe Giusti offers free tastings of their balsamic at all different levels and their vermouth.  It was all fantastic.  We decided on some i...

YY Time with Y-town Friends

This new place is Asian town was a fantastic experience with some wonderful friends.  Ronnie and I got a call dear old friends John, Dave and Dana- from Youngstown and now living in Cleveland- to meet for lunch at a new place called YY Time.  This restaurant is a cool new concept in Asia Town.  You sit and order through a QR code.  Each seat has its own code.  They have street food, skewers, Asian soups, bubble teas and milks so many great choices.  We each ordered an then shared as we love to do.  I cannot wait to return!  Here are the great items we tried that day.   Salty crispy chicken and a fruit bubble tea Rice Noodle soup with braised brisket and one of the specialty crossing the bridge soups.  The noodle soup was amazing.  The flavor of all the broths were just amazing.  My husband and I split ours and It is definitely big enough to split.  And then we all tried a little bit of each others to just have a taste...

GIrls Trip- Alaska

I know know, this blog is all about the fun stuff I do with my husband, but this one blog post is going to be about an adventure I had with the one person I have known the longest in my life- my sister! The trip started with Angela texting one day asking if I wanted to see the Aurora Borealis....I thought sure why not.  And then we booked a trip and here we are. As we were planning I remembered an old friend from my semester at American lives in Fairbanks so I reached out to him for suggestions.  He offered some great ideas on places to go, things to do, and places to eat. Sadly we will not be able to see him and his wife, because they leave for vacation right after we got in town.   So the adventure for me started with a 7:50 text that my flight changed and a rerouting.  I left Cleveland at 1:40 pm and met up with my sister in Seattle at around 7 pacific time for a quick dinner before we parted ways for our flights to Fairbanks (different airlines).  ...
