Day 2 Venice
Ahh…Venice….the city of water and lots of walking. We started out the day a bit late, but it was
a good day. Poor Ronnie, I just keep
making him walk and walk and walk. We
began by going towards Piazza San Marco.
Various sites were seen along the way including the gondolas.
The Piazza is currently slightly flooded. They have these risers everywhere to walk on. That made it bearable. Check out the video.
We then received directions for where to catch our boat for
the islands. We walked over that way and
it was definitely a tourist trap area.
But we stopped for a sandwich and café for brunch. We split a lovely caprese sandwich had an
espresso each and Ronnie a beer. The
tomatoes are definitely not as good in the north as when we were in Sorrento,
but still better then the US.
Off to the boat and the Islands.
First stop was Murano for the glass blowing demonstration. It is amazing how fast they can make the glass items. I have done the glass blowing in Ohio City and it was great to see them do things the same way. We watched the master make a cup, a horse, a fish, and a pitcher.
See some videos
below.
After we had over 2 hours on the island. We saw lots of shops, Ronnie was annoyed with
me loving everything I saw. I purchased
some gifts of Murano glass and found a beautiful necklace for myself I love it.
Of course throw in a church, we are in Italy.
Then off to Torcello. It is an interesting very quiet island. It seems rather abandoned. The churches were interesting. And then disaster struck…..my phone died and I forgot the connection cord for the portable charger. I am an idiot.
It was then off to the island I had been to before- Burano-
the beautiful colored homes and handmade lace are just exquisite. By now, Ronnie is probably ready to lose his
mind as I drag him store to store so I can buy a beautiful handmade
tablecloth. I believe I bought it from
the same store I purchased them from 20+ years ago. I held
back buying the handmade clothing.
We did meet a lovely couple on the boat and chat with them
throughout the trip. They are from
Toronto and her sister in law is from Shaker Heights small world.
Once back on land, with my phone dead, we navigated our way
to dinner at Osteria Da Nico. It was
delicious. We started with our favorite
beef carpaccio, served over a bed of peppery arugula, topped with fresh parmigiana
Reggiano and served with fresh lemon to squeeze. We both had fresh pasta- Ronnie off course
with the seafood medley and mine with scallops and pistachio pesto. It was delicious.
Afterwards, we definitely found our way home between his
lack of Wi-Fi (my phone has the international plan) and my dead phone. All in all a great day with many miles. Tomorrow off to Ravenna.
