Venice day 2

Day 2 Venice

Ahh…Venice….the city of water and lots of walking.  We started out the day a bit late, but it was a good day.  Poor Ronnie, I just keep making him walk and walk and walk.  We began by going towards Piazza San Marco.  Various sites were seen along the way including the gondolas.

Of course a statue of San Antonio

The Piazza is currently slightly flooded.  They have these risers everywhere to walk on.  That made it bearable.  Check out the video.

We then received directions for where to catch our boat for the islands.  We walked over that way and it was definitely a tourist trap area.  But we stopped for a sandwich and café for brunch.  We split a lovely caprese sandwich had an espresso each and Ronnie a beer.  The tomatoes are definitely not as good in the north as when we were in Sorrento, but still better then the US.

Off to the boat and the Islands.

First stop was Murano for the glass blowing demonstration.  It is amazing how fast they can make the glass items.  I have done the glass blowing in Ohio City and it was great to see them do things the same way.  We watched the master make a cup, a horse, a fish, and a pitcher.

See some videos below.

After we had over 2 hours on the island.  We saw lots of shops, Ronnie was annoyed with me loving everything I saw.  I purchased some gifts of Murano glass and found a beautiful necklace for myself  I love it.  Of course throw in a church, we are in Italy.

Murano neighborhoods

Taking a break from the rain with some prosecco

Waiting to get on the boat with my new necklace!

Then off to Torcello.  It is an interesting very quiet island.  It seems rather abandoned.  The churches were interesting.  And then disaster struck…..my phone died and I forgot the connection cord for the portable charger.  I am an idiot.

So the rest of the pictures relied on Ronnie taking them.  While walking around Torcello we grabbed a bad of prosciutto flavored chips (interesting) and 2 more espresso. He posted some on his Facebook page as well.

It was then off to the island I had been to before- Burano- the beautiful colored homes and handmade lace are just exquisite.  By now, Ronnie is probably ready to lose his mind as I drag him store to store so I can buy a beautiful handmade tablecloth.  I believe I bought it from the same store I purchased them from 20+ years ago.   I held back buying the handmade clothing.

We did meet a lovely couple on the boat and chat with them throughout the trip.  They are from Toronto and her sister in law is from Shaker Heights  small world.

Once back on land, with my phone dead, we navigated our way to dinner at Osteria Da Nico.  It was delicious.  We started with our favorite beef carpaccio, served over a bed of peppery arugula, topped with fresh parmigiana Reggiano and served with fresh lemon to squeeze.  We both had fresh pasta- Ronnie off course with the seafood medley and mine with scallops and pistachio pesto.  It was delicious.

Afterwards, we definitely found our way home between his lack of Wi-Fi (my phone has the international plan) and my dead phone.  All in all a great day with many miles.  Tomorrow off to Ravenna.

Bologna Day3- day trip to Modena

We started off the day sort of late.  Decided to do a day trip to Modena, round trip was under 17 euros total for us both.  We walked to the train station which is literally like 5 minutes from our hotel grabbed a cappuccino water and apricot filled croissant and off we went.  We arrive in Modena less than a half hour later.   look at the pretty streets of Modena Another day another piazza! But we were in Modena and I was in search of balsamic...a tasting a something.  The first store I went in to had very, very high end balsamic you could do a tasting for a price and the cheapest bottle started at 60 Euro.  This was not our balsamic market.  This was a little above where we wanted to buy and we have tasted the really expensive stuff before.  But then we found a reasonable store.  Giuseppe Giusti offers free tastings of their balsamic at all different levels and their vermouth.  It was all fantastic.  We decided on some i...

YY Time with Y-town Friends

This new place is Asian town was a fantastic experience with some wonderful friends.  Ronnie and I got a call dear old friends John, Dave and Dana- from Youngstown and now living in Cleveland- to meet for lunch at a new place called YY Time.  This restaurant is a cool new concept in Asia Town.  You sit and order through a QR code.  Each seat has its own code.  They have street food, skewers, Asian soups, bubble teas and milks so many great choices.  We each ordered an then shared as we love to do.  I cannot wait to return!  Here are the great items we tried that day.   Salty crispy chicken and a fruit bubble tea Rice Noodle soup with braised brisket and one of the specialty crossing the bridge soups.  The noodle soup was amazing.  The flavor of all the broths were just amazing.  My husband and I split ours and It is definitely big enough to split.  And then we all tried a little bit of each others to just have a taste...

GIrls Trip- Alaska

I know know, this blog is all about the fun stuff I do with my husband, but this one blog post is going to be about an adventure I had with the one person I have known the longest in my life- my sister! The trip started with Angela texting one day asking if I wanted to see the Aurora Borealis....I thought sure why not.  And then we booked a trip and here we are. As we were planning I remembered an old friend from my semester at American lives in Fairbanks so I reached out to him for suggestions.  He offered some great ideas on places to go, things to do, and places to eat. Sadly we will not be able to see him and his wife, because they leave for vacation right after we got in town.   So the adventure for me started with a 7:50 text that my flight changed and a rerouting.  I left Cleveland at 1:40 pm and met up with my sister in Seattle at around 7 pacific time for a quick dinner before we parted ways for our flights to Fairbanks (different airlines).  ...
