We started off our last day taking the San Luca train to the top of the hill. Along the way you get a nice history of Bologna and the arches and the 600+ porticos. They had to be tall enough for a man on a horse with a hat to pass through. They were used by everyone as a place to sell wares, be protected from elements etc. It was a cool history about all of them.

Along the drive we saw what they called fat Madonna. It is a beautiful statue. So much of the way to the top is dedicated to the blessed mother. But if I made Ronnie walk almost over an hour and a half uphill to see a church. he would kill me. Thank goodness I found the train! :-)As we ascended the hill, I was not sure the "train" was going to make it. Their is beautiful religious art work all the way up the hill.

At the top they turn around for you to be able to take a picture of the Santuario delle Beata Vergine di San LucaVideo of the entry into the church
Up on the alter at the Sancuaria. Che Bella
We then went up the stairs to see the view from the Dome.
Video of stairs to the top.
The beauty from the top. It was very windy out.
Sign as you descend the steps.
We then stopped for a refreshment as we waited for the "train" back, Prosecco, Birra and potato chips.
We stopped for lunch at RossaRosse
They are getting ready for the events to start for what they call a festival, but when I look it up online it is a bunch of speakers etc.
I wanted to finish up some shopping. 1. I got some kick ass shoes I had been looking at almost every day. LOVE them. But how cool is this- the Amarena Fabri shop. Yes I bought some stuff here too. Way cheaper then when it is imported.
Ronnie and I then stopped for some appertivo- A Hugo Spritz and birra. They brought us tarelli, potato chips and olives. As is typical in our evenings....we walked and we walked....found a few more gifts for people. We then went to a different section of town for dinner. This area is closer to the University. Fun fact- University of Bologna is the oldest university with continuous operation in the world. Pretty cool!!!
We found Ristorante Oberdan da Mario. They had nice tablecloths and napkins and a wonderful staff.
We did not quite want to end the night so we continued walking looking for a place closer to us that had drinks and dessert. We stopped here:
Ronnie had an old fashioned I had a mojito (it was listed as an after dinner drink). They brought us each a plate of 4 savory pastries. I had a goat cheese tart, pastry with mushroom and goat cheese, another with almost like a cream cheese, tomato and anchovy, the last was a corn meal based pastry with soft cheese and radish. Ronnie had a soft cheese and tomato cup, another with caper, tomato and cheese, and his last was a spinach roll with ham and fresh mayonnaise. We had nibbles of each
This was a perfect end to our vacation. We came back to finish packing all the gifts we got and get ready to leave bright and early tomorrow morning. I love being here but do miss home and our doggy. Tomorrow is a LONG travel day. We will see what it holds.
