Bologna day 4- last day in Italy.

We started off our last day taking the San Luca train to the top of the hill.  Along the way you get a nice history of Bologna and the arches and the 600+ porticos.  They had to be tall enough for a man on a horse with a hat to pass through.  They were used by everyone as a place to sell wares, be protected from elements etc.  It was a cool history about all of them.

Along the drive we saw what they called fat Madonna.  It is a beautiful statue.  So much of the way to the top is dedicated to the blessed mother.  But if I made Ronnie walk almost over an hour and a half uphill to see a church. he would kill me.  Thank goodness I found the train!  :-)

As we ascended the hill, I was not sure the "train" was going to make it.  Their is beautiful religious art work all the way up the hill.

At the top they turn around for you to be able to take a picture of the Santuario delle Beata Vergine di San Luca

Up on the alter at the Sancuaria.  Che Bella

We then went up the stairs to see the view from the Dome.

Video of stairs to the top.

The beauty from the top.  It was very windy out.

Sign as you descend the steps.

We then stopped for a refreshment as we waited for the "train" back,  Prosecco, Birra and potato chips.

Here is our cute little train.

The Bologna Soccer field.  They said it is a religion for them!

entry back into Bologna

We stopped for lunch at RossaRosse

Ronnie had veal cutlet with parma ham and parma chesese

I had a pasta of the region with guanciale & Asparagus

They are getting ready for the events to start for what they call a festival, but when I look it up online it is a bunch of speakers etc.

this girl always in the window making tortelloni.

I wanted to finish up some shopping.  1. I got some kick ass shoes I had been looking at almost every day.  LOVE them.  But how cool is this- the Amarena Fabri shop.  Yes I bought some stuff here too.  Way cheaper then when it is imported.

Ronnie and I then stopped for some appertivo- A Hugo Spritz and  birra.  They brought us tarelli, potato chips and olives.

As is typical in our evenings....we walked and we walked....found a few more gifts for people.  We then went to a different section of town for dinner.  This area is closer to the University.  Fun fact- University of Bologna is the oldest university with continuous operation in the world.  Pretty cool!!!

We found Ristorante Oberdan da Mario.  They had nice tablecloths and napkins and a wonderful staff.

I chose agnelo (lamb) and spinaci e burro

Ronnie chose a sirloin and spinaci e burro.

We did not quite want to end the night so we continued walking looking for a place closer to us that had drinks and dessert.  We stopped here:

Ronnie had an old fashioned I had a mojito (it was listed as an after dinner drink).  They brought us each a plate of 4 savory pastries.  I had a goat cheese tart, pastry with mushroom and goat cheese, another with almost like a cream cheese, tomato and anchovy, the last was a corn meal based pastry with soft cheese and radish.  Ronnie had a soft cheese and tomato cup, another with caper, tomato and cheese, and his last was a spinach roll with ham and fresh mayonnaise.  We had nibbles of each

This was a perfect end to our vacation.  We came back to finish packing all the gifts we got and get ready to leave bright and early tomorrow morning.  I love being here but do miss home and our doggy.  Tomorrow is a LONG travel day.  We will see what it holds.

Bologna Day3- day trip to Modena

We started off the day sort of late.  Decided to do a day trip to Modena, round trip was under 17 euros total for us both.  We walked to the train station which is literally like 5 minutes from our hotel grabbed a cappuccino water and apricot filled croissant and off we went.  We arrive in Modena less than a half hour later.   look at the pretty streets of Modena Another day another piazza! But we were in Modena and I was in search of balsamic...a tasting a something.  The first store I went in to had very, very high end balsamic you could do a tasting for a price and the cheapest bottle started at 60 Euro.  This was not our balsamic market.  This was a little above where we wanted to buy and we have tasted the really expensive stuff before.  But then we found a reasonable store.  Giuseppe Giusti offers free tastings of their balsamic at all different levels and their vermouth.  It was all fantastic.  We decided on some i...

YY Time with Y-town Friends

This new place is Asian town was a fantastic experience with some wonderful friends.  Ronnie and I got a call dear old friends John, Dave and Dana- from Youngstown and now living in Cleveland- to meet for lunch at a new place called YY Time.  This restaurant is a cool new concept in Asia Town.  You sit and order through a QR code.  Each seat has its own code.  They have street food, skewers, Asian soups, bubble teas and milks so many great choices.  We each ordered an then shared as we love to do.  I cannot wait to return!  Here are the great items we tried that day.   Salty crispy chicken and a fruit bubble tea Rice Noodle soup with braised brisket and one of the specialty crossing the bridge soups.  The noodle soup was amazing.  The flavor of all the broths were just amazing.  My husband and I split ours and It is definitely big enough to split.  And then we all tried a little bit of each others to just have a taste...

GIrls Trip- Alaska

I know know, this blog is all about the fun stuff I do with my husband, but this one blog post is going to be about an adventure I had with the one person I have known the longest in my life- my sister! The trip started with Angela texting one day asking if I wanted to see the Aurora Borealis....I thought sure why not.  And then we booked a trip and here we are. As we were planning I remembered an old friend from my semester at American lives in Fairbanks so I reached out to him for suggestions.  He offered some great ideas on places to go, things to do, and places to eat. Sadly we will not be able to see him and his wife, because they leave for vacation right after we got in town.   So the adventure for me started with a 7:50 text that my flight changed and a rerouting.  I left Cleveland at 1:40 pm and met up with my sister in Seattle at around 7 pacific time for a quick dinner before we parted ways for our flights to Fairbanks (different airlines).  ...
